This is one of my favorite Christmas images.
The composition, with the young Madonna holding the Child,
and the Hutsul shepherd, kneeling in awe and reverence, and
the colors the artist used and the method of painting, with the
multiple halos around the figures, all come together in a reminder
of a Christmas carol and a representation of how the Birth might
have looked like had it taken place in the Carpathian mountains.
